May Day

I was given these May Day postcards in 1994 by Larissa Skorobgataya, my 17 year old  Kazakhstan Youth Exchange partner. Her family were originally from the Ukraine and had been in the wave of emigration to the Steppes, the Soviet Union's Wild West Pioneers......When we visited, Kazahkstan was newly independent. Russians and Koreans outnumbered Kazakhs and Russian, not Kazakh, was the official language......
