John Stocks, Turnpike Labourer
On the trail of my Great, Great Great Grandfather, Turnpike Labourer. He lived in Crosland Moor probably worked on the Wakefield to Austerlands Turnpike. The milestone I found in the grass on Blackmoorfoot Road is on the route............
The wonderfully named Refremey Haytack was John Stock's wife......
Milestone
Hidden away in the grass on Blackmoorfoot Road is this very weathered milestone for the Wakefield to Austerlands Turnpike. The sun was out, so I tried to draw the letters and numbers. Hard to see what's engraved and what's chipped off......

Flamborough Fish Shed
Yorkshire Wolds Bike Tour: This black-painted timber shed in Flamborough had a rusty orange corrugated iron roof and its own fish weather vane. It was a windy day, blowing me downhill to North and South Landing....
Titchy Church
Yorkshire Wolds Bike Tour: titchy church at Fordon.
Note bike and bench too hot to sit on (painted black)
Stone Head
Weaverthorpe village in the Yorkshire Wolds. It has a Norman church perched on top of the hill (worth the ride up) above the duck pond...and this funny little chap peeps at you near the door...
Black Jack Thwing
Yorkshire Wolds Bike Tour: Thwing village pump, known as "Black Jack". During WW2, it's ironwork was saved from being melted down by being hidden in a barn. Rediscovered under the hay in the 60s, the timber, black-painted pump was restored to its former glory
