Wakefield to Halifax Turnpike

I've now  walked Blind Jack Metcalf's  original turnpike road route  from Wakefield to Halifax, built in 1756. Some bits disappeared under the M62 near the Elland bypass, but I located the old route to Elland bridge down the hillside into an industrial estate. Saturday's walk took me up over Beacon Hill avoiding the main road at Salter Hebble, passing Ann Lister's coal mine at Shibden Hall.
